Floor Model Telescope by Steinheil with Vintage Tripod

This is a massive multi-draw telescope by the Steinheil in Munchen, Germany. Total length measures 37” at full draw. The main barrel is mahogany with four brass extension tubes. The objective is signed, “Steinheil in Munchen No: 6274 measuring 2 7/16” in diameter. A four element erecting system, plus objective, produces 35 xs of extremely sharp images. The tripod mount, with a sold brass 8” threaded pillor turning, was made to fit the adjustable alt-azthmuth mount. Dual, none-intrusive mount rings with knurled finger nuts have been added for securing the tripod to the cradle mount. The wood tripod is a vintage period adjustable leg height model made from maple. All the mountings were custom made by Erik Van Cort in his workshop. The action is quick, lock solid, and silky smooth. Nicely foldable, it can be quickly eased next to the grandfather’s clock when not accenting the great- room. This is a fine vintage floor telescope, by an important maker, which would add beauty and style to any office, private den or library. Easily moved to the veranda, the German optics will deliver a breathtaking enlarged image of distant mountains or the moon.
