  THIS ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD.

Chinese, circa 1850, measuring 16" in the sheath, each blade 15 3/4", probably Hudiedae, 19th century, wood handles with fine carvings of birds and forest, leather sheath with distinct markings, bronze faceted guards and pommels (note crack in back of handle); a pair of Chinese fighting swords in very good condition with the original embossed sheath.

This is a rare pair of Hudiedae guardless fighting swords with very intricately-carved handles showing birds, a deer, and a rabbit with other foliage dipictions. Special attention should be given to the carved embossings in the leather sheath as they were distictive markings with regards to the owner. Both swords were built to be housed in the same sheath and were used by the warrior, one in each hand - one thrusting up and one thrusting down.

The completness of this set in quite good condition makes this an exceptional find.
